Devastating Fallout from Government Research Cuts
In an RNZ piece titled “Scientists left ‘homeless’ after governement’s job cuts, advocates say“, we get just a glimpse into the suffering caused by the coalition government’s policies.
GFANZ is a member of the Save Science Coalition which has collected stories of people who have been affected by government cuts to public research. This article is a peek into the just released “Underfunding our future — the human face of science cuts” It captures the stories of many researchers who have either left science or New Zealand or both. One of those scientists is GFANZ Councilor Sean Bisset.
The report states what the Save Science Coalition expects of the next Government. It also provides a thorough background into the current science funding crisis. Even with all of this, the report is not a long read. We encourage you to take it in and think about how we can work together towards a public research system that works for all of us.
