Dr Georgia Carson (Ngāti Whakaue) received her PhD from Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, working under the supervision of Associate Professor Melanie McConnell and Professor Mike Berridge. The main aim of her PhD was developing and validating molecular methods to identify mitochondrial transfer in a murine leukaemia model. Dr Carson worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Berridge Lab on the metastatic effect of metabolomic function in a model of breast cancer, and is now the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research’s Tautotoro Māori Engagement Advisor. In addition to GFANZ, she also volunteers on the councils of the Science Communicators Association of New Zealand (SCANZ) and the New Zealand Association of Scientists (NZAS).
